The Most Electrified Town in Finland

The Most Electrified Town in Finland had its world premier in Kassel dOCUMENTA (13) 9.6.-16.9.2012.

Olkiluoto 3 is the first nuclear plant build in the western world after the Chernobyl catastrophe in 1986.

Eurajoki is a town of 6.000 people on the west coast of Finland. There are already two nuclear reactors in Eurajoki dating back to 1970s. The title of the piece stems directly from a slogan that the town itself is proudly promoting. The local inhabitants have adapted to the "invisible stress".

The OL3 new plant was supposed to open in May 2009 but the whole project is hugely delayed because of bad planning and unexpected technical problems. The official estimation is that OL3 will open in late 2014 - at the earliest. It will be the most powerful station in the world.

Industrial scenes of construction work are juxtaposed with images of charging rural landscape and constant radiation measuring in various forms.

The installation is based on the feature documentary Return of The Atom by Mika Taanila and Jussi Eerola (work-in-progress).
